Dr CH Khong had been an CASA Designated Area Ophthalmologist since 2006. He also conducts eye examinations on behalf of the Australian Defence Force. Other aviation-related affiliations include membership to the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine.
At Murdoch Ophthalmology CASA medical class 1, 2 and 3 eye examinations can be carried out.
Eye examinations related to aviation but not directed by CASA or ADF eg. airline pilot testing are also accepted but these are not Medicare rebatable services. These consultations usually attract the same fee as CASA medical examinations.
Please pay close attention to any paperwork you have received from Murdoch Ophthalmology in preparation for your examination.
If you have a non-CASA/ADF related consultation, please bring any relevant paperwork or letters.
If you rely on visual aids for near or distance vision, standby spectacles are essential for completion of your medical examination.
Standard colour vision testing for all medical classes is available. However if you are seeking further testing after first test failure (Farnsworth Lantern test), you would have to be referred to another facility. If you anticipate this requirement, please contact us for details. To our knowledge there is only one orthoptist who has the Farnsworth Lantern. Please also note that as of June 2024, CASA has a new protocol for colour vision assessment after initial failure with a DAO.
If you are planning cataract surgery, please refer to CASA’s aeromedical implications webpage for guidance on intraocular lens choice.
